Do bananas need to be inspected?
During the 1960s, the associated inspecting regulations required that each bunch of bananas needs to weigh between 1.5 kg and 3.5 kg; the check for ripeness, rottenness and damage of appearance was also mandatory. The inspection site of bananas was the banana shed (inspection shop), where vendors gathered to let the inspectors sample the bananas for examination. The bananas were then to be exported, so they would be examined once again at the port.
