The laser light is divided into reference and measurement beams by a beam splitter, and the laser beams projected on the reflector and reflected back overlap to produce an interference fringe image. When the probe drives the measuring beam to touch the workpiece to be measured, the optical path difference between the two beams can be used to obtain the displacement of the probe and calculate the length of the workpiece.
