Introduction of program
"The roadmap for fairness and safety: the digital collection website of cultural relics of standards, inspections and metrology” is the initial achievement of the cooperation (note 1) of BSMI, MOEA and the National Science and Technology Museum (NSTM) in the fields of collection, preservation and promotion regarding the cultural relics of national standards, inspections and metrology.
BSMI transferred/donated their discarded instruments of inspection or calibration to NSTM. Following the collection process, NSTM evaluated the worthiness of the objects in order to determine if they could be part of the collection. Thereafter, those selected objects would be examined, cleaned, maintained and digitized according to the professional practices of the museum. Meanwhile, for individual cultural relics, the explanatory study, combined with oral history and interviews, were executed in order to accurately understand the meaning of each relic, and faithfully interpret their values. We hope that through this process, the important Taiwanese cultural relics of standards, inspections and metrology can be preserved under the established institution, providing physical evidence of the efforts dedicated by governments to protecting trading fairness and product safety for consumers.
The preservation and study of cultural relics of standards, inspections and metrology will continue. Besides the presentation on the website, BSMI and NSTM will use those cultural relics and research results to organize promotion activities such as publishing, development of digital contents, exhibitions and education programs in order to fulfill our responsibility and provide diversified service to the general public.
- Note 1: BSMI and NSTM signed the "Cooperation Memorandum of Collection and Promotion for Metrological Cultural Relics" on June 6, 2013 amd July 7,2017.
